Hi Fathers, All,
Last Sunday's 1st reading was from the Acts of the Apostles where they talked about not eating blood, strangled animals, fornication etc... My question is, are we allowed to eat blood pudding which comes in curry mee etc? It seems like a direct prohibition from the bible, although it does say somewhere else that it is not what that goes in your mouth that makes you unclean but what comes out of it.
I personally do not eat the blood, but am curious to know the Church's stand on this matter.
-A _________________ Jesus asked them, "Who do you say that I am?" And they answered, "You are the eschatological manifestation of the ground
of our being, the kerygma in which we find the ultimate meaning of our interpersonal relationship." And Jesus said, "What?" |

Hi A,
That is a great question. I am no theologian but I do refer to the following - Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” For me, the life essence of the being is essentially in the blood. Personally, I do not take blood (except when my gums bleed) but I am rather curious to as to how to answer this. I searched the online Catechism (http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc.htm) but have not found any reference yet.
God bless. |

i quote the bible verse 1 Corinthians 7:17-24
those verses in the bible mentioned clearly that god accepts us for who we are when we accept him as our God. if we have been eating the blood in the curry noodles before we became Christians, then by all means proceed even when we are Christians, as this has been a normal diet for the Chinese especially here in Penang.
The reason why Paul wrote these verses in his letter is because at that time, the Jews was having conflict with the Gentiles (non Jews whom are believers) with regards with several of their traditional practices such as circumcision. The Jews claimed that Gentiles will never be true believers until they are circumcised. And therefore, Paul wrote to resolve these conflicts. What this means is that we should not dwell on issues such as believes and practices, but we should just understand that Christ has died for us and that we should only be slaves to Him and Him alone. We can practice our faith in whatever way as long as we obey God's commandments, namely the Ten Commandments and etc.
However, we must take note to keep our believes and practices of our faith in check especially when we are with our fellow Christian brothers and sisters as written in 1 Corinthians 8:9-13. If a fellow brother or sister believes that eating blood in curry noodles is forbidden, then for goodness sake don't consume blood in front of them so that we do not to shake their believe. As written in verse 12 " when you sin by hurting a follower with a weak conscience, you sin against Christ".
Therefore, i apologise if I have caused any misunderstanding in this posting of mine. Thank you for reading and God bless! |

my dear brother in christ,
to cut the entry short...there is nothing wrong with eating curry mee. however, one must take not to cause a lost of faith among your brother and sisters in christ by your own actions. to simply put it, if your action of eating blood in the curry mee has caused other christians to question your faith (or their own faith), then you musn't eat the curry mee by all means....if you still have doubts, please read my earlier entry. i apologise for the length of my entry.
ps: the Word is very important to every Christian. when we solve or answer any question that were posed, we IDEALLY need/should quote scriptures from the bible. And when we quote from the Bible, we should not just provide a haphazard explanation out of it thus explaining why the reason for the length of my entry. |
