Cathedral of the Holy Spirit
- Ministry of the Lectors -
The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit presently has forty lectors who service weekend and weekday Masses of the Cathedral. They range from 16 to 60 years of age. The ministry of the lectors was formally established 22 years ago at the first meeting of readers from the various districts of the (then) Church of the Holy Spirit, held on Sunday 4 March 1984 when (the late) Rev. A. Dorett was the parish priest. Brother Xavier Andrew, at that time a seminarian on parish pastoral work, must be credited for organising the district-based readers into a proper pool of lectors.
Presently, all weekend masses are serviced by two lectors each, according to a roster drawn up by the roster secretary, Pedro Geronimo, in consultation with the chief lector, Lucille Dass. Recruitment takes place twice a year or as and when the need arises. All new recruits are initially audited, after which ongoing formation and training (spiritual and technical) on liturgical lectoring is provided by Lucille Dass.
All lectors adhere to a set of guidelines drawn up to help formalise and enhance on- going proclamation of the Word.
