I Surrender
It’s been nearly 2 years since my sister’s passing, as I hear the song “I Surrender” by Hillsong Worship it takes me back to that hospital ward, she was lying there on that hospital bed, she had not been fully conscious for a while. I turned on YouTube and started playing this song. As she heard the lyrics and the melody something shifted in the room. She kept on reaching out her hand, reaching, searching, and grasping at the air. We were all puzzled at first, but I placed the cross in her hands, a smile stretched across her face she pulled the cross close and held it to her chest. At that moment she surrendered all of it to Him, all the pain, all the burdens and in that moment, I felt tears streaming down my face because I knew deep in my soul that she accepted Jesus and no matter what happened after. She would be welcomed with open arms to the kingdom of heaven, and she would be safe, like how He will welcome me and my family when it’s our time.
I would like to encourage everyone including myself to surrender all our burdens, sins, regrets, and uncertainties to the feet of the cross.
May He empower us and always give us
the strength to persevere and release the chains
and may His light shining brightly in the darkness
always guide us to the right path when we have strayed.
May the perpetual light shine on the souls of our departed loved ones,
and may their light shine down from us from up above.
Amen.
