Jesus’ Ascension: What and Why

The ascension of Jesus is the event when he returned to heaven after his resurrection, 40 days after Easter.

He foretold his ascension to his disciples and instructed them to wait for the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem (Acts 1:4-5).

He ascended from the Mount of Olives, blessing his followers and promising to come back again (Luke 24:50-53).

He was taken up by a cloud and hidden from their sight, while two angels announced his future return (Acts 1:9-11).

He ascended to the right hand of God the Father, where he reigns as the Lord of all and intercedes for his people (Ephesians 1:20-23).

He ascended as the first fruits of the new creation, opening the way for us to join him in God’s presence and glory (Hebrews 4:14-16).
