Message of Pope Francis – First World Day For Grandparents And The Elderly

On 31 January 2021, Pope Francis announced a new celebration in honour of all grandparents and the elderly, who are so important to our communities and our Church.  This new World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday in July, close to the feast of Sts Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus.

On 22 July 2021, the Vatican has released the message of Pope Francis for the first ever World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly which will be celebrated on Sunday, 25 July 2021 with the theme “I am with you always”.

“I am with you always” is a way of expressing the closeness of the Lord and the Church to every older person, especially in these challenging pandemic times and is also a promise of closeness and hope that young and old can mutually share.  Let us treasure the spiritual and human wealth that has been handed down from generation to generation.
