Musing #47 – The Lord is my comforter and strength

I want to thank and praise the Lord for His faithfulness and mercy. I am sharing this testimony on behalf of my husband. Just recently, on a normal weekday morning, my husband woke up to the alarm at 5 am. He went to the toilet and then came back calmly, asking me to touch him. He was covered in cold sweat all over.

I quickly checked his blood pressure, and it was normal. His temperature was also normal, and he had no chest pain. I called my son-in-law, and he took leave to take his children to school. Meanwhile, my husband seemed to be a bit better, except for a bloated stomach and slight pain. The children were informed, and my daughter made arrangements for him to see the doctor. By the time we went to the hospital, he was cold again. A scan, X-ray, and blood test were done, revealing some blockage in his small bowel. He had to be admitted, most likely for surgery, and was not allowed to consume any food. By the time the surgeon arrived, it was already nighttime.

He explained the situation and stated that he would attempt a procedure to naturally open the blockage. Meanwhile, calls for prayers were made, and our parish priest visited and anointed him. During this time, my husband experienced pain and had to undergo some painful procedures. The next day in the afternoon, the doctor informed us that the procedure had not been successful, and surgery was necessary. They took him to the operating theater around 9 pm, and there was a long wait with uncertainty. It was already midnight when my daughter and I went to the ward to inquire about the situation. We were then informed that he had just been taken to the recovery room. He was brought back to the ward just before 2 am.

For a few days, he was only allowed to drink a small amount of water and fluids. He remained in the hospital for 10 days. The healing process has been slow, but it was a situation the Lord allowed. There was an outpouring of support from the parishioners, family, and friends who came in groups to pray for him at the hospital. Both sides of my family were deeply concerned about his condition. It was heartwarming to see our grandchildren taking turns to pray for their grandfather before his surgery. This was something none of us expected. God has been so good, ensuring that every situation was taken care of, and there was no need to worry. I thank God for the gift of our children and their spouses, who attended to all our needs.

The Lord was my strength during this difficult period. As I look back, I realise it was never me, but the Lord who guided me. I want to thank God for His presence in our lives because without Him, we are nothing. I would also like to express gratitude to all those who prayed for him.
