Wisdom 2:1,12-22
Psalm 33(34):16,18,19-21,23
John 7:1-2,10,25-30
As we get closer to the Holy Week, the stories we hear about Jesus in the Bible might seem a bit scary.
In today’s Reading, some people are so angry with Jesus that they want to hurt him. And we find implicitly a reference to him in the First Reading, in the book of Wisdom, where the godless say to themselves, “Let us lie in wait for the virtuous man since he annoys us and opposes our way of life.” And that is what probably Jesus did to the people who did not believe or who were godless in that way.
Now even though he knows this, he knows what is going to happen to him, he keeps speaking openly about his message. His message of love, of peace, of justice. Now the Reading tells us that Jesus did not let the angry people stop him from doing what he knew he had to do. He kept talking about how God sent him to share His love and truth with everyone.
And for us, sometimes it is hard to live our faith when people around us do not understand us or do not support us. Perhaps when we want to live in truth, it can annoy other people as well. And we need that courage. We need that perseverance. We must not be discouraged when we live in the truth and we speak the truth.
Just like Jesus, we need to stay true to what we believe. No matter what, whatever happens and even when it feels tough, and it is tough, we keep following Jesus, sharing his love with others.
Let us remember that Jesus had the Father’s support. And He promise us that as well.
So today we pray for that grace to keep living our faith, knowing that Jesus is right there with us, helping us every step of the way.
