Theme: Hope in the midst of Tribulation
The Gospel Acclamation of today states:
Stay awake praying at all times for the strength to stand with confidence before the Son of man.
Are we ready?
Are we really ready to face our own judgment day?
Are we delaying working on certain areas of our lives just because we think time is on our side?
When our own harvest time comes, what would we have to show?
What sort of fruits were we producing?
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton said:
We must often draw the comparison between time and eternity. This is the remedy of all our troubles. How small will the present moment appear when we enter that great ocean?
And in the Gospel, Jesus gives us a parable about the fig tree and says that when its leaves come out, summer is near. God is control of nature and the seasons and everything else. He is in control of our lives day after day, season after season, year after year.
Are we aware and do we sense the Lord’s presence in different ways every day of our lives?
We are also assured of Christ’s promise of eternal life that will not pass away.
Perhaps there are days when we feel our own world is crushing down and coming to the end, filled with trials and tribulations. But within the crisis and chaos, the Lord is always there with us.
We are reminded to be alert, whatever the circumstances in our lives.
Therefore, we need to draw and to renew our trust in the Lord’s love for us. We should then be confidently concern with bearing witness and doing His will.
So as we keep ourselves ready for the day when our fruits are taken into account by God, the Divine Harvester, let us keep in mind what Saint Catherine of Siena said. She said this:
We are rewarded not according to your work or your time but according to the measure of your love.
