Matthew 5:20-26

In today’s Gospel reading, God reminds me that the commandment “You shall not kill” (Matthew 5:21; Exodus 20:13) applies not only to our actions but also to our thoughts. It is very easy to say that we do not kill, but it is much harder to admit when we are angry enough to insult someone (Matthew 5:22). God cares about our actions, but He cares even more about our hearts. If killing is a sin, then being unrighteously angry with someone is also a sin. Jesus further teaches in Matthew 5:24 that we should reconcile with those we have made or who have made us angry. As believers, we are called to act quickly once we realise the harm we have caused another.

The question is, how can we reflect on this teaching and apply it in our daily lives? How can we implement Jesus’ instruction in today’s world?
